BETA Release Announced for Bitspan's Patent-Pending Email Identification Technology

West Vancouver, BC, March 30, 2005. Bitspan Network Inc., an anti-spam technology developer, has announced that it will be selectively releasing the beta version of its flagship product, the Spamity™ component, an email identification tool that uses the company’s patent-pending Forensic Email Sequencing Technology (FEST™). This beta release follows a period of alpha testing during which this component was written to the specification and functional details addressed. The Spamity™ component delivers easy integration into virtually any mail system, at any level and is completely secure – no email ever leaves the local network. The Spamity™ component, which is part of Bitspan’s Spamity™ SDK, enables developers to deliver next-generation spam filtering applications desired by network and IT administrators.

Ideally, the Spamity™ component is deployed in concert with other spam filtering systems, and can be positioned upstream and/or downstream of existing solutions. Additionally, the spam email identification functionality of this component is accessible from remote systems. The component, which is supported on all platforms, utilizes Bitspan’s patent-pending FEST™, which can be used for spam email identification and filtration of inbound email with incredible accuracy.

Along with the component beta release, two additional utility applications are being offered. These include the Spamity™ Monitor, and Spamity™ Web Reporter. Spamity™ Monitor is a tool that assesses the effectiveness of the Spamity™ component and all of the underlying technologies in identifying spam email in a non-intrusive fashion. It does so through parallel processing of emails received on a given system port (usually SMTP). The results are delivered to the Spamity™ Web Reporter, a web-based reporting engine that provides granular details about the effectiveness of the Spamity™ component, allowing users to view key information in real-time from any browser.

“Using the tools provided, anyone can assess the effectiveness of Spamity with zero risk to their production environment,” said Mr. Jelveh, CTO and Founder of Bitspan Network Inc., “I am confident that the Spamity™ component can significantly help reduce false negatives (the inability to filter out spam) and false positives (erroneous detection of legitimate email as spam).”

By delivering these beta applications, Bitspan has helped address core challenges associated with existing email filtering solutions; the increasing difficulty in correctly identifying spam email and differentiating it from legitimate email. “Basically any organization that uses email, whatever the setting or format, can benefit by adding this application to their anti-spam arsenal,” said Mr. Jelveh. Bitspan is presently accepting applications from an additional number of select organizations that wish to participate in the beta. Those interested in participating should contact Bitspan Network’s Beta Partners Program. For download instructions, beta release notes, and to learn more about the program, please visit the beta project page at http://www.bitspan.com/beta. Beta user feedback is highly valuable and greatly encouraged. Please refer to the Beta Partners Program page and the accompanying tech info sheet for a complete description about its terms.

“Basically anyone that deals with email, in any setting and format, can utilize this component” said Mr. Jelveh. The functionality of the component can be invoked locally and/or remotely, making it ideal for use in Firewalls, Message Transfer Agents (MTA), Mail Servers (SMTP), Anti-Spam solutions, Anti-virus solutions, collaboration and email client applications. Mr. Jelveh added: “… many companies stand to benefit from this technology for the purposes of attaining better and more accurate mail filtering results for themselves and their end-users.“

Bitspan is currently accepting application from organizations that wish to participate in its beta program. Those interested in participating in this program should contact Bitspan Network’s Beta Partners Program at beta@bitspan.com.
